Before we begin there are a couple of questions that I have to ask before we get to the gift, to see if it’s right for you!
- Looking to save some money on your phone bill?
- Are you twenty-something years old?
- Do you work primarily from home?
- Do you work near a city, and are always connected to the Internet?
- Can you spare $20 a month?
- Are you still on your parents phone plan?
What if I told you that a gift like that is only $20? Yup, $20 a month. You have that right? That take-out that you get on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, or just a $20 that you find from the street? Just about everyone has an extra $20 to spare each month. So why not help your parents out, a gesture that says, “you’ve done a lot to support me, so now I will support you”.

If you answered YES to any of the above, and are waiting for the answer here it is, get your own phone plan. Yup, you heard that right, and it’s an easier and simpler process than you might think nowadays than 2004. Today, most plans are transferrable and these telecomm carriers are offering anything to get a new user to switch over. My personal recommendation for this post, is to go with GoogleFi.
I decided to go with GoogleFi, after a couple of factors. If you are single, near a metro area, already have a home internet provider, connected through Wi-Fi for most of your day, and want a plan to make calls and text when you need. One of the main reasons to switch under Google, is to keep your data within the same company, get exclusive promotions and offers under Google’s eco-system, and leverage everything they have to offer. Most of all they make just about every process, simple and easy to use. I was able to move my current phone number over to their service in just 48hours.
Most of all they are a MVNO (Mobile virtual network operator). This means they actually leverage other the big telecomm companies’ networks to route their calls. So, you get some of the same great service, reception, and network usage as the big providers.
Overall, I couldn’t be happier with the service since I switched from Verizon to their service. There interface is simple, there are no hidden fees, the bill is easy to read, and there is always an easy way to upgrade, downgrade, shop for new phones, and add new members to your phone plan. The setup is quick, painless, and simple. Better yet signing up with my referral code gives you $20 (~1 month) off of your bill.
