Show Your Work…and your process

Don’t be afraid to share

I love little books like this one. Packed with creativity, and written in a unique style to show not every book has to be pristine. During my graduate school, there was another very similar that really caught my attention that this one reminded me of called, “The Back of a Napkin“. It’s a fun read.

Anyway back to this book review, “Show Your Work” is meant to help the artist or the creative get their work seen by others. One of the chapters that really resonated with me talked about what we should share online. These days it’s easier than ever before to show your work to the world, but sometimes especially with art people connect with the artist and the process.

So he talks about sharing the process alongside with the final product. You want to show your audience your process, and not worry what others think. If you have a true passion about what you are doing and what you are creating your audience will come find you. Don’t worry about trying to get yourself out in front of an audience, post and share quality ideas, snippets, blogs and such and your audience will come find you. Easier said then done.

It would be easy to reiterate most of the chapters into this book review. There’s about 10 and the author expands upon each idea in a modern and relatable way. If you’re in a slump and need some creative ways to get out of a funk, and spread your ideas out to the world I highly recommend. It’s an easy read, well thought out, and keeps it simple for anyone to pick up and get some motivation.

Rating: 4 out of 5.
