Blackout

Thoughts

It’s been a while since I’ve picked up a fiction book in awhile. This one was recommended to me from a buddy I met over in Germany. The setting for this book takes place all across Europe in places like Germany, Netherlands, Amsterdam, and Istanbul. I was able to get through this one in less than 10 days, which compared to any book that I have read recently was fast. The story pulled me in, and Marc Elsberg did a great job really detailing what would happen to all aspects in society if we did lose power.

Target Audience

If you’re looking for a book that is a step away from our current world and like elements of real possibilities grab this one off the shelf. You won’t be caught by the cast of characters, but rather the story and other implications that this book talks about. If an apocalypse type book, is something you like, you might find this one pretty interesting.

Takeaway

Marc Elsberg creates an intricate tale throughout the the whole 3 week span. He tells a story that is all too possible with today’s computers and infrastructure. The most interesting take that Marc writes about deals with the ramifications of the loss of power in the grid and the impacts it has on various aspects of our lives. It’s insightful, and gives a great look at what could happen if our power grids were to be hacked.

This book is a true testament to the power of electricity in the modern era. If your looking for a good book to read at the beach or on vacation this might be the one for you. If you aren’t looking for anything that gets to much into the sci-fi space this might be your next read.

Rating: 4 out of 5.
