Thoughts
I was excited to read this book given the title and from a few different people in the media talked about it. Well, I’m glad I bought it off of eBay for cheap. Honestly, most of this book could have been summarized into a website article about 1/5th of it’s size. I thought hey, “work smarter, not harder” right? Most of everything in this book is pretty much common sense. I didn’t really learn much. I think this book is good for someone just starting out. A kid, aspiring college student, or middle schooler? I don’t know, nothing about it really struck me as cool or interesting. I think I’ve done most of the different hats that Jim speaks about in his book.
Rightfully so, I think he did a great job with the marketing of this book. Being the CEO of the book in this case, having a nice title, and selling probably a million copies of this, well done. I think that this book is good for someone who is trying to figure out their career, or never entered into the workforce. Maybe those who lack some of the soft skills that most jobs require this would be great for.
The author talks about five or six different hats that every CEO has to play within his business. He elaborates on them for each of the chapters. It could have been a blog post somewhere and it didn’t have to be a full book.
If you are a decade into your career, you won’t get much out of this book.
