Based on the 2013 movie Black KKKlansman, this is a memoir of Ron Stallworth as he goes undercover in an intelligence investigation for the CSPD. After checking out the movie on Netflix, based on my roommate’s recommendation, I was hooked and wanted to read more about the story. It’s a story so absurd I didn’t know it was real until doing some quick internet research, watching the movie to find out it was based on a true story.
It’s absolutely crazy, just as the investigation, back in that time of our country to have a police officer begin and execute an investigation in that way. The book covers alot of the racial discrimination that Stallworth faced, while still being able to succeed and become an investigator on this case during his tenure. There’s a blend of dark humor mixed with all of it, because reading some of the lines, articles, and other quotes just sounds so ridiculous. The most notable comedic scenes have to deal with Ron talking with the KKK over the phone, but then having another white officer pretend to be him, when they meet up with this group. Again, a story so ridiculous it’s hard to believe it’s true.
I highly recommend this one, as it will give you a nice blend of comedy, history, and a bit of an autobiography if you are into more real events. I think the movie and the book are up there with some of the best I’ve read/watched so far this year!
