Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin II

Thoughts

Alright so shortly after finishing up the Lost Years, I had to continue on with the last book in the trilogy. The Last Ronin II, picks up right after the previous, and gets the action going right from the start. I enjoyed this book much more than the previous, even if there’s no (*spoilers) Mikey in this one.

The Last Ronin II basically repackages the TMNT story into a new age with similar characters from the original story that we all love, but with their own unique attributes. You can see some of the character developments and introductions coming, but that’s what makes it enjoyable. You get to see the turtles with a new cast 2 boys and 2 girls to make up the squad, Casey Marie, and another news reporter. Some might argue this has been done before, but everything just comes together nicely.

I won’t spoilt to much here, but I thought this book was going to wrap up this story, and I learned that it certainly did not, and leaves the door open for an ongoing series. It was a cool surprise, and I was actually disappointed a little bit. I thought I would be getting the chance to see the grand finale, and curious how they would wrap it up. I wasn’t paying attention to the last remaining pages, just engrossing myself in the story that moved the pages really well. The writing, pacing, and art was great! I went through this entire book in two sessions. Not to mention the new dynamic of turtles kept things fresh, because you don’t know how they all act just yet, and what their dynamic is like. It’s refreshing and a lovable replacement just like the four before them.

I am excited to see what else the Last Ronin has in store. How they keep this going and what characters we will expect to hear from next!

Rating: 4 out of 5.
