101 Questions to Ask Before You Get Married

Thoughts

I can’t pinpoint exactly where I remember hearing this book. I actually think it might have been on a Your Mom’s House podcast, or maybe from Diary of a CEO. I thought it was an interesting perspective for a book, and maybe would just open up my mind to some new and different questions. At the time in 2023-2024, I was dating a good amount, just trying to sift through New York City for my person. I think there’s largely a ton of pressure from society to find a partner to settle down with and get married. I tend to disagree with a lot of the societal norms. Why can’t you get married, but also keep going?

Needless to say, it’s always on everyone’s mind the older that you get. Finding your person, to support you, be there for you, and you be there for them. For one of my birthday’s in the dating realm, my sister got me a dating playbook and also cheat (again all in good fun from the comics that I liked during the Opie and Anthony days).

So I guess this book isn’t entirely out of left field. I picked this one up, and I’m not sure if I can even give this a review. It’s just a book with 101 questions and some commentary on each question from the author. There are some good questions that even got me thinking, there was a few good analogies, but nothing that you wouldn’t have thought of before. Honestly for some couples i can see this being a book that you go through with your partner as you are in your relationship. I can just do without the preachy and religious aspect, not knocking it, but there was a big Christianity influence to about ~20 of the questions.

I think whether you are dating, in a relationship, or looking at marriage in your near future, this is a great book. It helps you maybe figure out your dating intentions, and gives you a good lead on questions to ask on your dates. I personally used a few of these questions to help spark some conversation and discussion. So I think in that sense it’s a good read, to just get some ideas to keep the conversation going and get more insightful with your partner.

Again weird book review here, but the questions do make you think internally, “How would I answer this, if I was asked this question?”

Rating: 3 out of 5.
